Prior to 1930 the use of lime mortars and plasters in construction had been proven for thousands of years. With the advent of the use of cement and its benefits as a binder in modern construction practices, came its misuse in remedial repairs on historic buildings, leading often to greater or more accelerated associated damage. As such there has been a recognised need to re-visit the use of lime in relation to historic building repairs and stone work conservation.
The use of the appropriate form of lime for work required and the conservation needs of the building is a further consideration that requires specialist knowledge and experience.
Working in conjunction with specialist partners our operatives are trained and experienced in the use of both hot mixed non-hydraulic and naturally hydraulic lime (NHL) for a range of remedial and restorative services.
