We were contacted by a private residential client to assess the roof on a bungalow in Staveley, Cumbria. The client had reported multiple ingress issues across the roof and we were asked to carry out a full tactile roof survey and provide a subsequent report along with options and associated costings for repair.
Our initial full tactile roof survey highlighted multiple defects across this ageing roof, Including, but not exclusive to, degraded concrete roof and ridge tiles, defective valleys and decayed battens. Our subsequent report presented the client with 2 options. Either numerous short term patch repairs, or else a full renewal of the roof covering. Whilst patch repairs would have dealt with the current known issues, the general condition of the roof meant that it was highly likely that further issues would arise in time. With this in mind, and as the property was let as a holiday cottage, our client was in favour of a long term solution and so opted for a full re-roof. As an addition to the new roof covering we were also asked to install photovoltaic solar panels to the two south facing roof pitches.
