All Saints Church, Burton in Lonsdale required the fitting of bird netting to its belfry windows to eliminate the nesting of birds in the bell room. As conventional external scaffold access would have proved much too expensive for this relatively small job, we were called in to access the tower and install netting to all louvered belfry openings.
The existing bird netting at All Saints Church had deteriorated to the point that birds, namely jackdaws, were able to enter the tower and nest among the bells. To prevent further damage new bird netting was required before the commencement of the years nesting season. Conventional scaffold access had been ruled out owing to excessive cost for this small piece of work and Mobile Elevating Work Platform access was not practicable due to the soft earth of the adjacent graveyard. Working with the fabric of the building structure we were able to utilise rope access methods to provide a cost effective solution to the problem and carry out the necessary work, whilst at the same time allowing the day to day occasions of the church and graveyard to continue unhindered.
